We are Designed to Mother
What begins as feelings of fear, trepidation and petrifying vulnerability develops into a robust life force. Territorially aware, committed and fiercely loyal. Motherhood either forces women to become reactive, puny, scarce and unconscious or keenly intuitive, instinctive, thundering after injustice and forever multi-lingual; fluent in the languages of dreams, healing, and hope.
I recall like yesterday, although almost 26 years ago, the feelings of complete vulnerability as I held my firstborn child in my arms. I had never experienced such love and at the same time such intense fear that if something happened to this baby of mine, I would in essence crumble to pieces. Now 25 years and four children later, the fear has transitioned to a mature trust and confidence that life will allow these beautiful offspring of mine to rise and fall, to succeed and fail and to love and lose. Instead of buckling my knees clenching my teeth, I square my shoulders and watch through faithful, and loving lenses the miracle of this thing called motherhood.
There are many resources available to mothers today (thanks to the world wide web and social media). Ordering everything from diapers to digital thermometers is a cinch. Now days there are many options for quality baby products that mothers can trust. I am a huge fan of The Honest Company. I absolutely adore their diaper bundles. Durable and hypoallergenic, The Honest Company wipes clean and soothe with plant-based ingredients.
Back to the topic:
I realize that I am not a woman who stresses much; however, I have a firm belief that children and adults alike are survivors, they are capable and they are “enough.” Sometimes stepping back and allowing our abilities to unfold rather than allowing our egos to define the essentials of babyhood, childhood and motherhood, these essentials will reveal themselves beautifully and successfully. This mindset is both innate and cultivated. If I am to be chosen to offer continued insights on motherhood, children and parenting, I will be most honored.
